Useful information
During university term time, Middlesbrough is busy throughout the week with student nights taking place in lots of bars and clubs.
During the holidays, the town is especially busy from Thursday to Sunday. Most high street shops have a presence in the town centre
and Teesside Park is a few minutes’ drive away where you will find a Showcase Cinema and loads of shops. Restaurants and take aways are
everywhere catering for everyone’s tastes.
Albert Park is just down the road and has a Roller Skating Rink, Cafe, Swan hire on the Lake,
Tennis Courts and Bowling Greens. Music events are often held here too.
For those of you interested in culture, the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (MIMA) opened its doors in January 2007.
It apparently holds the second largest collection of Picassos in the United Kingdom, as well as works by Andy Warhol, Henri Matisse
and Damien Hirst among others. Surrounding it is the town's overhauled Victoria Square and Central Gardens where there is a supersized
tv and often music events.
(Some) Football fans will be pleased to know that Middlesbrough is home to the Championship football team, Middlesbrough F.C. The
club is about a 20 minute walk to the Riverside Stadium. If Sunderland F.C is more your thing, 20 minutes in the car will get you there.
Middlesbrough has excellent transport links with a nearby bus and train station and Durham Tees Valley Airport just up the road.
