REDEVELOPMENT plans are being drawn up for a shopping site in Middlesbrough’s Linthorpe Road.

Brudenell Properties Limited has purchased the Kwik Save site in Linthorpe Road.
Guy Brudenell, the company’s managing Director, said: "We already own two landmark buildings in the town centre – Teesside House and York House - and the acquisition of this site underpins our commitment to continued investment in what is becoming a vibrant and exciting townscape.
"We will work with Kwik Save, and their advisors to try to ensure they are supported through their current difficulties.
"Once their lease expires, however, we are in negotiations with another leading food retailer for the ground floor space and would look to submit detailed planning proposals for a comprehensive redevelopment of this site to include accommodation on the upper floors,” he said.
A landmark Teesside building is changing its face- and becoming bigger and better than first planned.
The former home of Cleveland County Council, in Borough Road, Middlesbrough, is being transformed into 76 luxury apartments by Campus Lifestyle.
The original scheme for Teesside House was to provide accommodation for around 215 studio apartments for students in time for the start of the 2011/12 academic year.
The developer also proposed an additional 34 one and two bed-roomed private apartments and six penthouse apartments for sale in a ten-storey high scheme which would have cost £12m.
But, Campus Lifestyle had a change of plan and is now working on a £14m scheme for Teesside House that will accommodate 386 students.
High life a big attraction for Tees students
A £15m transformation to bring an empty Middlesbrough town centre office block back into use has been completed.
Accommodation for upto 386 students has been provided in Teesside House in Borough Road.
The 10 storey building has stood empty for more than 10 years. It was last used as office space for Cleveland County Council.
Campus Lifestyle is operating the student accommodation which is provided in apartments of four to eight bedrooms.
The first students will move in at the start of the new academic year in September.
Campus Lifestyle has also moved its offices to the ground floor of Teesside House and there is also commercial space.
Mandale properties carried out the conversion work which included an extension at the back of the building which has doubled its floor space to 110,000sq ft.
Cheryl Barber, Finance director with Campus Lifestyle, said Teesside House was opposite Teesside University and was ideally located for students.
“There is nothing else like it in Middlesbrough. We have had massive interest in the accommodation and 80% is let already.
“We have 24 hour security in the building which is appealing both to the students and their parents.”
The cost for accommodation in Teesside House starts at £77.50 a week. That includes £3,000 contents insurance, gas and electricity and broadband internet connection.
The accommodation has fully fitted bedrooms, en-suite bathrooms, open plan lounge and kitchens, cooker, microwave, fridge freezer and vacuum cleaner.
Residents also have access to laundry and a private phone line.
